I seen a comment on a post that said “if there was a God, why would he allow us to go to hell?” Man this comment got me! The wonderful thing about God is that he gives us choices in life. A choice to follow Him or not. So if someone is going to hell it is no one’s fault but that person. If one falls deeply into sin and does not make that choice to turn and give it all to God, that is all on that person! One thing that those that have this same thought need to understand is because God gives us the choice, then we also need to live with what comes when our choice is not of Him.
Proverbs 3: 5-6 says “trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. 6 Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take.” It plainly says that we have to make that choice in trusting God with ALL our hearts. If you need to make a decision, call on God to help you through and ask Him what His will is for that decision. Once you find out what that decision is, if it does not go your way then move on from it and know that because you put all your trust in God that he has a much bigger plan for you!
Early in the Bible, Deuteronomy 30: 19-20, it says “Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live! You can make this choice by loving the Lord your God, obeying Him, and committing yourself firmly to Him. This is the key to your life.” It clearly states right here that God gives you the choice, it’s up to us to choose right. Does God like seeing His people in hell or in pain? Absolutely not, but sometimes He takes us through things to tighten the relationship with Him but some does not want to listen and they still stray from God. Look at the Israelites and how many times they turned their back on God, they would be severely oppressed to the point that they would call out to God for help. Every time God sent them someone to pull them out of disparity. That is because He loves us and wants that relationship with us.
The last verse I want to share with you is Galatians 6: 7-9 “Don’t be misled-you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant. Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit. So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessings if we don’t give up.” This is straight to the point, you reap what you sow. How loving is our Father that He does not force us to come to Him, instead He gives us the choice which makes it much more sweeter when we align ourselves with Him. One of my favorite victories in the Bible is with King Jehoshaphat, when he was told that there were 3 armies coming to fight him. He had a choice to run and to not believe that God was going to give him victory over these 3 armies. He chose to pray and worship before, during, and after. Because he did that, when King Jehoshaphat and his army got to the battle field, all 3 armies were already concurred praise be to God. That is how good our God is! He wants you to lean on Him and to give all your burdens to Him. He is just waiting for you to make that choice to follow Him and live like Jesus.
Side note, I used the NLT translations in the verses here.
