Don’t you just love when Holy Spirit gives you little nuggets showing you how much you have grown? I was emotional Wednesday after church! Right now we are doing studies on the major and minor profits and last week we were studying about Habakkuk. It has a line that says “wealth is treacherous” which is not saying that having money or being rich is a bad thing, it is how you steward your money that is key. I see all the time where people say “if money is the root of all evil, why do churches ask for it.” It goes so much deeper than just what others see.
How can money be made as evil?
When people have the mentality that all they want to do is figure out ways they can get money, that is making it evil because they are making money an idol. Instead of pursing money like that, we need to use that same mind set to purse a relationship with Jesus. I want to share a part of my life when all I would do is think of money. Since my husband and I had gotten together, I was always thinking of ways we could have lots of money as did he. We both grew up in families that was very limited on money so we did not want our kids to live like that and we did not want to anymore either. When we had money to pay our bills and still have money to spend, I was so happy and at peace. But when we were struggling and didn’t know how we were going to pay bills, I would freak out, cry, stress, worry, get depressed I totally lost my peace. Mind you, this was happening up until a few months ago! This is the nugget that Holy Spirit shared with me at church, I heard ‘remember how you would look at money for your peace.’ Let me tell you I was an emotional wreck after hearing this. All this time, God has been pruning me and showing me that HE is where my peace is. If we are short on funds, it’s ok because God has a plan. I have totally relinquished my finances to Him! I seek guidance on how to steward our money because we would not have it if it was not for God. Right now, we are short on funds between trying to stay on top of bills and getting our tiny home completed. But, I know God has a plan and our house will get finished! So I tell you this to remember to always look at God for your peace, trust in His process and His plans. He has got you!
Why do churches ask for money?
When people ask why churches ask for money if it is evil, it kinda leaves me dumbfounded. As said above, we would not have money if it weren’t for God blessing us with it. He blesses us with the job, the knowledge to do that job, and works in our lives to guide us on His path if we listen. The Bible states that tithing is something between us and the Lord and it says to tithe at least 10% back to the church. If I have my last little bit of money, that will go in the tithe plate to honor God for giving me the ability to not only do my job, but do it well. My whole mindset has changed on money, as I do not want money to get more things for me, but to give more to my church so they can do more to reach out and help others.
In closing, remember who gives us what we need and steward that with His guidance. God wants us to be happy we just have to let Him work in our lives. Father God, I thank you for the ability to sit here and share my testimony of how you have pruned me into the woman I am today. Though the pruning was hard, Lord it had to be done and I thank you for taking time on me. Heavenly Father thank you for always guiding me and showing me what steps I need to take. I humbly ask that you continue to show me Your way you want me to take. I just pray this all in Jesus name, Amen.
PS: I have had this post up to edit for over a week! We have had a lot going on and I have had limited time to complete my school work, so my attention gets put there before writing a post. But, it will get better, this is just a busy season that will pass soon. Thank you all for sticking with me.
